Jackson Hole makes most every skier’s must ski lists, and it should be on your family ski bucket list. The terrain here is amazing, with a signature Tram delivering you from the 6,311’ base to the 10,450’ summit for the most continuous vertical of any ski resort in the US at 4,139’. Jackson Hole has been famous for steep chutes like Corbet’s Couloir and the snowy Rendezvous Bowl since it opened in 1966. Jackson Hole now offers 2,500 acres of skiing for all abilities on three separate summits from Rendezvous Mountain (served by four quads and a new $31 million tram that was installed in 2008) and Après Vous which offers great intermediate groomed cruisers. A modern eight-passenger Bridger gondola serves the center of Jackson Hole, launching from the base up 2,800’ vertical to a spectacular lodge and a great lunch spot - Couloir at 9,095’. Jackson’s mid-mountain Casper lift serves blue wide open cruisers, and the lower mountain has a handful of gentle groomed beginner boulevards.

For skiing families, Jackson Hole has a full service Kids’ Ranch ski and snowboard program, a Burton Stash natural terrain park, and full service slopeside lodging at the Teton Village base. You might want to wait till your kids are mastering the mountain before visit Jackson Hole – so you can ski all this awesome terrain, but if you are anxious to go – then just grab your posse and your cowboy hat and giddy up. Jackson gets big snow, over 475’ on average, but doesn’t get the big crowds given its location in wide-open Wyoming (the least populated state in the union), 12 miles outside of the cute cowboy town of Jackson. While on ski vacation in Wyoming, take time to tour Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge where you will see thousands of elk grazing, spot bighorn sheep, moose and deer, bald eagles soaring overhead, and trumpeter swan fishing in the Snake River.
